Megumi Hayashibara nació el 30 de marzo de 1967 en Tokyo, Japón.

Hayashibara estudió en una escuela católica y fue acosada en quinto curso. Era activa en los clubes de Badminton, biología, actuación e inglés. Realizó el apel de Alicia en una producción en inglés de Alicia en el país de las maravillas.

A pesar de ser enfermera nunca ha trabajado en ello.

En enero de 2004 anunció estar embarazada de su primera hija.
